It's that time of the year where we get to celebrate the achievements of the year in gaming, just like they do in the movie industry. Whether it was a blockbuster hit or a total flop, 2020 was an interesting year for gaming.
The list of games I've chosen to highlight has a bit of everything, from the biggest AAA titles to the indie games that blew us away.
If you're interested in the full list of top 10 games of 2020, check out the reviews below.
Call Of Duty: Warzone
Call of Duty: Warzone is a new approach to the shooting game. It is a game that has been played by many people over the past couple of years.
The developers have come up with a new way to help the players with the gaming experience. CoD: Warzone has been designed in such a way that it is considered as the most intense video game, and it’s the best because of its very realistic feel.
The game has two modes of play, Warzone and Combat Training. Warzone is a large-scale multiplayer mode featuring different game modes and maps. Combat Training is a game mode featuring AI enemies and a tutorial.
Minecraft is a sandbox indie-game developed by Mojang which was first released on November 18, 2011. The game has since sold over 100 million copies. In the game, users are put in a world of blocks in which they can destroy or build anything they like.
A game of Minecraft is quite simple. The main objective of the game is to survive in a world that is made of cubes. The players are required to gather resources and build structures in order to survive. Minecraft is a sandbox game that allows players to destroy or create structures using different blocks.
There are different modes that can be played; however, the main objective is to survive.
Animal Crossing: New Horizon
When you begin playing Animal Crossing: New Horizon, you will notice that the game is very similar to its predecessors. It is still a life simulation game, and you still need to do everything that is a part of that genre. However, this time you get to go exploring in a new world, and the game is not limited to a small village. The whole world is open to you as soon as you begin playing the game.
The game still retains its charm, and you can still meet your favorite villagers, but there are some new features as well.
Grand Theft Auto 5
Grand Theft Auto 5 is an action-adventure game played from either a first-person or third-person view. Players complete missions—linear scenarios with set objectives — to progress through the story. Outside of missions, players may freely roam the open world.
Composed of the San Andreas open countryside area and the fictional city of Los Santos, the world is much larger in area than earlier entries in the series. It may be fully explored after the game's beginning without restriction, although story progress unlocks more gameplay content.
The game operates more like a TV show than a movie in the sense that you can go anywhere and complete many missions at any time.
League Of Legends
League of Legends is a MOBA game with 2 teams of 5 players against each other. Each player controls a single champion with unique abilities and skill sets.
The objective of the game is to destroy the opposing team’s nexus (their base). The game ends when one team destroys the nexus or when the timer runs out. The game is played in rounds with the team who won the previous round attacking first.
In League of Legends, each player controls a champion, which is a character with unique abilities and skills. All champions have 3 different attributes, which are:
The champions have a different amount of points in each of these attributes, which allows them to excel in specific roles. For example, a champion with high damage will be good at attacking but will be very weak in defense.
The Last of Us Part II
The Last of Us Part II is a video game that has been in the works for years. It is developed by Naughty Dog and is the sequel to the original The Last of Us game. Despite that players were highly disappointed with the story of Last of Part II, the game managed to become a bestseller with over 4 million of copies sold.
Final Fantasy VII Remake
The remake of the classic game from 1997, Final Fantasy VII, follows Cloud Strife, a mercenary who joins the eco-terrorist group, AVALANCHE, in order to stop the powerful megacorporation Shinra from using the planet's life essence as an energy source.
Players take control of Cloud, exploring the open world and battling in real-time. The combat system features an active time battle system, which players will have to manage the time between their turns and the enemies' turns.
An eternal battle between demons and marines.
Doom Eternal is a first-person shooter video game developed by id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the sequel to Doom (2016) and the ninth installment in the Doom series.
The game is set to take place during the Earth's invasion by a demonic army. The player assumes the role of one of the last surviving marines on Mars, and must fight off and defeat the demonic invasion. Doom Eternal introduces a new gameplay feature called "destructible demons" which allows the player to dismember demons with their weapons.
Cyberpunk 2077 is a narrative-driven, open-world RPG set in a dystopian future. The game follows the story of V, a hired gun on the rise in Night City, an open world with six different regions.
In 2020, CD Projekt Red released their new game, Cyberpunk 2077, to feverish anticipation. Cyberpunk 2077 is set in a dystopian future and played from a first-person perspective. There are 50 hours of gameplay, and the player has control over how the story played out.
The game is set in the future where people can genetically modify themselves to their liking, and had superhuman abilities.
Among Us is a fine example of an indie game that's quite like a game you already know, but distinguishes itself with elements that make it unique and interesting. I can't help but compare it to Mafia, a party game in which one person is secretly a bad guy, and the other players are trying to find the murderer. In Among Us, the roles are reversed, with one player being the murderer and everyone else trying to root them out.
The crux of the game is as simple as it is in Mafia: each round begins with the players choosing a role that will allow them to perform a unique action (like searching the ship to find new clues or attack other players). Then, they all participate in a round of minigames.
The whole game is built around this small, but exciting twist – you don't even know where the murderer is, but you can guess, and you can try to come up with a plan to take him down.
